About the Wong Tai Sin Temple-Taoist Temple, it could be said without the slightest hesitation that it is the most renowned shrines of Hong Kong and this shrine is dedicated to the Wong Tai Sin (the Great Immortal Wrong). This temple, which is situated on the southern side of the Lion Rock Hill covers an area of 18000 square meters.
However, in the early years this temple remained a private shrine and only the ‘Pu Yi Tan’ Taoists as well as their family members had access to this temple and on the Chinese New Year of the year 1934 the government opened this temple for the public. This temple got registered as a limited company of charitable nature in the year 1965 and owing to its historical significance, it has been attributed the grade of a Grade II historic building.
The features of this temple are a Nine Dragon Wall, the three-saint hall that is dedicated to Lu Dongbin (a Chinese deity), Lord Guan and Guan Yin and also includes a rare collection of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian literature.
Worshippers visit this temple to offer their prayers especially during the Chinese New Year and on the 23rd day of the 8th lunar month.
The opening hours of this temple are from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm and remains open all night on the Lunar New Year Eve and at present the administration of this temple is being taken care a Taoist organization known as the Sil Sik Yuen.
