If you trust your luck or simply for fun, you can gamble a little here, and you might not worry, as this practice of gambling at the horserace is completely legalized in Hong Kong.
As horse racing was counted as one of the favorite sports in Hong Kong since a very long time dating back almost two hundred years, a necessity of having the region’s own race course was realized and therefore, the Happy Valley Race Course was constructed in the year 1845 by the British living in Hong Kong with the first race commencing on the year 1846. Ever since, there was simply no looking back and with the reconstruction of the race course in the year 1995, all the modern elements were added in order to give it the stance of a race course of international standard and soon it shot to utmost fame. The horseracing track encircles a vast field upon which other sports events such as those related to football, rugby and hockey are held. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Archive and Museum with four galleries is housed on the second floor of the Happy Valley Stand and displays numerous exhibits including the origin of the horses that raced here as well as those depicting the history of the club and more.
You can catch a horse race at the Happy Valley Race Course on Wednesdays and sometimes on Sundays and public holidays. The season of horse racing however lasts from September to June every year.
